During the 1950s
advertisers and women's clothing retailers told women over and over again that
their figures needed perfecting. Even the best of figures could always
use improvement to make a lady look even more attractive; more appealing.
To that end, there were countless advertisements and fashion articles
appearing in virtually every Woman's magazine concerned with high-waisted, nip
and other forms of girdles, corselets and other foundation garments; all
designed to help a lady look her very best in the figure revealing clothing of
the era.
